Diet and lifestyle to follow as per Ayurveda in Autumn season ( Sharad Ritucharya)

Sharad ritu (autumn season) is the second season of southern solstice (Dakshinayana). It starts in August to last till mid October.

Cool and cloudy weather of rainy season changes to sunny and hot weather which causes aggravation of Pitta dosha*(http://www.ayurbeej.in/2016/01/pitta-dosha-tridosha-sidhhanta.html) in body because of increase in heat. Here please note that season does not change at once but gradual over days. Ayurveda  calls its  “Ritu-sandhi”.
Ritu-sandhi -
Last week of ongoing season and first week of upcoming season is that transitional period where change in season occur. Sandhi means conjunction. Here the diet and lifestyle of present ritu must be stopped gradually and that of the subsequent ritu should be followed.
If we suddenly stop and suddenly accept the diet and lifestyle of next season , our body will not adjust to sudden change and can have adverse effects on body and mind.
Do’s & don’ts of Sharad ritu-
In sharad ritu our digestion is moderate and pitta dosha is naturally aggravated. So to improve digestion power and strength of body and to pacify the pitta , we should take diet dominated by Madhur(sweet),Kashaya(astringent) and Tikta(bitter) rasa*(http://www.ayurbeej.in/2016/03/six-tastes-for-health-shadrasa-aahar.ht) which is also light to digest.
Let us see some guide lines of diet & lifestyle according to sharad ritu

Naturally aggravated pitta should be eliminated by panchakarma called Virechana. Also in this ritu blood impurity occurs which may cause skin problems where one should do Raktamokshna.

So this the ritucharya of sharad ritu.
