Diet and lifestyle to follow as per Ayurveda in Rainy Season ( Varsha Ritucharya)

Rainy season plays an important role in our life as it provides for water and food plus it is the most romantic season, brings in cool and soothing feel after the torturous summer heat. But along with these it brings many other things with it. So let’s see the rainy season through the eyes of ayurveda.

As we have seen in our previous article (importance of ritucharya & aahar*http://www.ayurbeej.in/2016/03/importance-of-rutucharya-aahar-food.html) ayurveda calls it “Varsha ritu”. It is the first season of dakshinayana ( southern solstice). It’s in between Mid July to mid September .Because of increased dryness in summers, accumulation of Vata dosha*(http://www.ayurbeej.in/2015/12/vata-dosha-leader-of-tridosha.html#uds-search-results) takes place in our body. In rainy season humidity and sudden cold weather causes aggravation of this previously accumulated vata dosha resulting in imbalance  of Tridosha physiology. Hence in this season many vata diseases occurs for e.g. patients of arthritis, gout, rhuematid arthritis face problems like pain, swelling over joints. Along with this body strength is also affected because of uttarayana, and  digestive fire is also low. So ayurveda stated that one should take food in less quantity and which is light to digest.

Here are some guidelines as per Ayurveda which we should follow in rainy season to keep our self away from health troubles.

Also
1) Never sleep in day time as it slows digestion.
2) Use completely dry and cotton clothes as they can reduce the chances of fungal infections (fungal infections mostly happen in this season because of humidity)
3) Keep body warm as body with low temperature is more prone to infections.

Rainy season is the season of Vata dosha diseases, the aggravated vata should be eliminated (shodhana) from body with the help of panchakarma.
Basti (Enema) is the ideal shodhana karma for vata dosha.

Dont forget the rain water harvesting as it is the crucial thing to do in todays world where we are facing water scarcity.
