Science of “Abhyanga-Snana” in Diwali

Diwali is festival of light. Diwali lantern, rangoli designs, fireworks, various delicious desserts, shopping , gifts etc is the common scenario at each and every household. But where we show this enthusiastic hustle-bustle in all preparations, there is one thing that everyone looks at it as a nightmare or a torture and it is the morning Abhyanga-snana ritual, where we have to get up early morning to get oil massage and bath. Though it seems a futile thing on outer side, have anyone wonder why our ancestors enjoined us to follow this ritual? If no then, lets take a brief look on this concept and lets know the science behind it.

Abhyangam means apply oil on parts of body or whole body. In ayurveda literature its described that ghee and other fats can also be used for this procedure but oil is one of the best choice as its easily available, easily absorbable in skin and its more efficient. So in classical term it is also called as “Tailabhyangam”.

According to ayurveda Abhyangam should be done by healthy(without any illnesses) person on daily basis but with time and hectic life this concept lost its importance, and it stayed limited upto diwali only.

Importance of Abhyangam-

Diwali festival comes in early winter. At this time dryness and coldness in climate increases, which causes imbalance of vata dosha. So skin darkening, dryness and itching, wrinkling of skin,  crack heels etc are the common complaints in these days. By doing abhyangam we can overcome these issues. And if we do it daily then we can get way to smooth, lustrous and glowing skin along with other benefits.

After all this procedure one should take bath.

So don’t be lazy and careless. Know the importance of Abhyanga-snana and offer this gift to your family and to yourself on this Diwali as well as the coming year.

Happy Diwali to all readers.
Stay healthy, stay tuned.
